Do it right – Never stand still – Be brave – No politics
What do you think of when you hear these things? Here at Carterwood, these phrases are not just words, they represent our core values and the defining principles that every member of the Carterwood team believe in. These values really sum up who we are and the totally different mindset we adopt, and the many awards we’ve picked up since 2008 are a testament to that.
As with any company with innovation at its heart, Carterwood is constantly evolving; not just in the way we pioneer new products and undertake unique research projects to help improve decision making, but as a growing team who are driven to stand out, both professionally and personally.
It is important that our values truthfully reflect not only our intentions, but our everyday actions and our ambitions for the future.
But what do they mean?…
Do it right – represents our commitment to excellence, adding real value and delivering to the best of our ability
Never stand still – embodies our passion for learning and developing, for ourselves and our products, embracing the need to constantly evolve and adapt
Be brave – reflects our courage in daring to be different, we think big with the understanding that sometimes you need to fail before finding success
No politics – is about being honest and straightforward. The best solution wins, regardless of who’s idea it is
Tom Hartley, managing director at Carterwood, shares his views on why our values are so important.
“Our values are quite different to many you will see at other companies, which I love – they stand out. Our values are the bedrock upon which our business is built and we pro-actively use them throughout the company in our decision making as we serve our clients, develop our services, support the wider sector, and grow and reward our team.
All too often, company values are mere words displayed on office walls and printed on mouse mats. Having been part of the Carterwood team for over 10 years, I know that this is a business that lives and breathes values. In my eyes, our values are why people choose to work with us – whether they are a client, team member or supplier – which is something I am immensely proud of and passionate about continuing.”
It’s no secret that Carterwood like to do things a little differently
The same applies to our quarterly team meetings and summer socials (naturally), and what better reason than to celebrate a fantastic 6 months!
No-one likes to be boxed up in an unimaginative meeting room all day, so the Carterwood team met at The Forge, a unique and creative space in the heart of Bristol’s Arts Quarter. With much of the team working remotely from home, the opportunity to catch up with each other in person was another reason to celebrate – we’re sure you’ll agree, there’s nothing like it!
After a brief company overview of last quarter’s successes and our goals for the next year and beyond, the team headed down to Mud Dock on Bristol’s historic harbourside to enjoy a delicious lunch. For those that know us well, no Carterwood social would be complete without a good old-fashioned quiz (not that any of us are competitive), and this time quiz masters Natalie and Sophie led us on a voyage of discovery to identify each team member’s dream vacation destinations.
Did you know that…
- In Lapland, the sun doesn’t set and is visible all day for 73 days each year?
- Singapore has its national anthem in micro-text on the back of their $1,000 note?
- Costa Rica’s western coast is a well-known Blue Zone, meaning that its inhabitants commonly live active lives past the age of 100 (a great place to build a care home or retirement village!)
- Hawaii has its own time zone
And what better way to round off a summer afternoon than with a boat trip? The team climbed aboard for a tour of Bristol’s harbour, accompanied by a cider (or two) and summer tunes to see us off into the sunset.
What happened next?
Well, you might have to join us to find out!
